Another from Robert Waldner,
Great for those of us in environments where not everyone runs Mozilla Firefox (yet ;) ), and can easily be chained before your local squid installation.

More information on this package can be found on the Debian web site.

Even if you do use mozilla, privoxy lets you do thinks like:

  • block all images from rotten.com, for when some miscreant inlines a link to motorcycle face on a forum. I similarly block *tubgirl* images.
  • rewrite web pages with regexes. While clumsy, it lets me rip off useless advertising side-panels from badly designed sites I use often, giving much more space to the content.
  • rewrite forum html to remove posts from rude baiting users
  • remove ads by default, and add them back in for sites you want to support
  • Choose your own cookie policy. I accept all cookies that do not persist across browser sessions, and only allow them to be read by the setting domain.

In short, it's workable in creating a custom browsing experience.
