mmv - Move/Copy/Append/Link multiple files
mmv is a program to move/copy/append/link multiple files according to a set of wildcard patterns. This multiple action is performed safely, i.e. without any unexpected deletion of files due to collisions of target names with existing filenames or with other target names.

There is a program called 'rename' included with the perl package that is similar to mmv but using perl expressions (eg. regex substitution, char translation, etc). I find I use both mmv and rename as their different methods can be more or less convenient depending on the case.
