vpnc - Cisco-compatible VPN client
vpnc is a VPN client compatible with cisco3000 VPN Concentrator (also known as Cisco's EasyVPN equipment). vpnc runs entirely in userspace and does not require kernel modules except of the tun driver to communicate with the network layer.

It supports most of the features needed to establish connection to the VPN concentrator: MD5 and SHA1 hashes, 3DES and AES ciphers, PFS and various IKE DH group settings.

Thorsten R. suggested this alternate way to secure network links:
Virtual private networking in cisco vpns under linux? vpnc is easy to set up and only requires a module from the standard kernel. If you use wlan you should investigate vpn, it's the standard choice for making wlan waterproof.

More information on this package can be found on the Debian web site.
(If there is a package you would like to see featured here, go to the userinfo page and follow the directions there to submit your entry.)

Now available in RSS and ATOM flavors too.

This is a really good client, but I'll canonize anyone who can help me get any cocktail VPN clients/protocols to get my Debian box at home connected to the Sonicwall VPN at the office.

Can somebody recommend a good vpn server package to complement this?

This mostly for if you have a Cisco VPN hardware unit that you need to interact with.

Otherwise, look into OpenVPN or IPSec (KAME or Openswan). You can make simple secure connections using SSH, as well

Cool, will do. We've got a cisco vpn 3000 job at work and I've been using the cisco module to connect in, but I should really look into securing my wlan (just discovered my AP is shafted a bit though :-\)

The most popular way of configuring IPsec connections under Linux is by using the Openswan ( httpwww.

OpenSwan and CISCO VPN 3080

Does anyone know (or has heard) of any incompatibility problems regarding IPsec tunnel between OpenSwan (I use Suse9.3 Linux) and VPN3080? Cisco does not support OpenSwan so I would like to know if I am going to have problems. Further info: My Linux box uses ipsec.conf with parameter "left" assigned a single IP address (not a networg subnet). In other words I am trying something like a road-worrior connection to the 3080 which is configured in "remote-access" mode. I also provide my static IP address refusing to accept the one offered by 3080. Seems to work OK but I need to eliminate my worries for future failures.
Regards to all!
