xpp - X Printing Panel
Graphical substitute for the lp/lpr command. With xpp, you can control every printing option known to the CUPS print system (the cupsys package). Best results are available with usage of the appropriate PPD file for your printer. Each user can save their own customized printing preferences.

Home Page: http://cups.sourceforge.net/xpp/

Also recommended by Malte S.:
My favorite printer frontend. Good for people who sometimes print .ps files or similar. You don't have to learn the whole syntax of lpr or alike.

Funny. I never thought lpr was too difficult to learn. But then I grew up writing sendmail.cf files. *shudder* Fortunately, I had that portion of my brain surgically excised.

More information on this package can be found on the Debian web site.
(If there is a package you would like to see featured here, go to the userinfo page and follow the directions there to submit your entry.)

Now available in RSS and ATOM flavors too.

i've used xpp forever (since till joined linuxprinting.org years ago), and used it exclusively until discovering gtklp a few weeks ago.

i haven't explored the differences between xpp & gtklp as i've only used gtklp for simple printing, but they seem pretty comparable as far as features. the main thing is that i need to change printer features detailed in the ppd (toner saver, resolution, text/picture quality) per print job, and both provide that. the cosmetic difference is that gtklp uses gtk, of course, so your gtk theme applies to it same as all other gtk apps (consistency on the desktop).

actually, what interested me is the companion app to gtklp: gtklpq. recently i purchased a network laser printer (but funneled through a central cupsd) that does not respond for a few seconds after receiving a job. i've needed to know whether the job was stuck in the queue (happened once; frustrating debugging a believed printer problem for several minutes just to realize the problem was that the printer was automatically disabled in cups due to me power-cycling the printer previously) or already at the printer. gtklpq shows cups' queue.

just mentioning gtklp as an alternative, possibly even a compliment, to xpp.
